History of Martyr Rajai Cardiovascular Center (National Cardiovascular Medical Center) Shahid Rajaee Cardiovascular Training, Research and Treatment Center (Shahid Rajaee Heart Hospital) is one of the largest heart hospitals in Asia. The hospital was opened in 1974 with a capacity of 400 beds. But it actually started operating with 265 beds. At the inception, the hospital included ICU and CCU wards with 12 beds, private ward with 18 beds and VIP ward with 4 beds. Other active departments of the Operating Room Heart Hospital (2 active rooms), catheterization and angiography, radiology, central laboratory, medical research laboratory, experimental research laboratory, dialysis ward, library, pharmacy, physiotherapy, autopsy and assisting school and medical school . In 1976 the number of active beds reached 366 beds. This year, specialized centers for vascular, heart transplantation, pulmonary hypertension and pregnancy clinics were added to the center's collection. In addition, 6 beds were added to the total beds as the emergency department expanded and the total hospital beds reached 563 beds. In the year 87, the internal ward of women increased by 5 beds from 51 to 56 beds and the surgeries of women increased by 3 beds from 47 to 50 beds and the total hospital beds increased to 571 beds. This year, specialized physiotherapy and rehabilitation clinics, peripheral arteries were launched, and the echocardiography section of TEE and fetal cardiac echocardiography added to its service portfolio. In 2012, the Health Prevention and Promotion Clinic was opened with the permission of the Ministry of Health and the hospital joined the World Health Organization Hospitals Network. In 2012, the emergency department was substantially reconstructed, and diplomatic and VIP departments were opened to accommodate foreign patients and health tourism.
